65 Fastback, 12k firm
Hey All - My mom is ready to let go of her baby. It's time for her to find a new home for her 65 Mustang. Hopefully to a caring home here in SA.
Here's the story.
My mom and I went out on the road in '82 looking for a roof for my '65 Mustang (that was sold to me as a Shelby, but wasn't). After cruising through Cleburne, we happened upon a large field of Mustangs near Mansfield. We took a look. Instead of buying that K-code coupe w/4 speed like I should have, I talked her into buying a C-code Fastback. Of course it was sold to us for parts, but we sat on it for another 15 years, long enough to let the previous owner pass on and get a title for the Mustang. The Texas title is clear and in my mom's name.
The 289 2bbl engine is awesome - was rebuilt by Charlie in New Braunfels. This guy was not cheap but builds the best IMHO. Correct engine paint for 65. New exhaust using the factory dual cast manifolds. The 3 speed trans was rebuilt by Kendrick. New Hurst linkage. The driveshaft and 8" rear end were rebuilt by Precision. New Flaming River steering box. You know these guys, and this stuff did not come cheap. Less than 500 miles on these parts.
Exterior, looks like a trailer queen @ 15 feet, a driver @ 3 feet (some paint imperfections, missing chrome trim and wrong placement of ornaments). Was completely stripped, then factory correct Bahama Blue paint applied, but the metal work was not done underneath (i.e. bondo). On the positive side, you will not be afraid to drive it. Sits on steelies and correct hubcaps. Correct but crappy Firestone tires gives it the vintage look but a terrible ride. Needs better tires and shocks.
The interior is standard black and needs some work. My mom had the front seats redone and the package shelf is all there. We had to weld in new floor pans because the pans were modified for later model seats. We had 3 point front seat belts installed (correctly). Needs welding work on frame rails under front pan (not sure why we didn't do this at the same time also). All glass is good. My wife says the interior is like riding with a high school boyfriend.
Alas, I'm not into Mustangs anymore and I don't have a garage to keep it in - it would surely be stolen out of the driveway. Young guys look at this thing like it is a girl in a bikini (my wife came up with that after a cruise this past weekend). People down the block rubber neck as it sounds like a Friday Night Special. A friend of mine claims he got his balls back after driving it. You will too.
No tire kickers. My mom keeps the Mustang under wraps in a locked garage. We take it out and roll it in and lock it up to avoid curiosity. She is very concerned about theft and is not interested in joy riders. I'd like to see the Mustang at a local show, so hopefully we can find a new owner for it in SA.
Yes it needs work, but the price is 12k firm. I know that's a lot of money, but that's where I have to start without getting in trouble. If you have that kind of cash, we can talk. I can arrange a viewing on 12/2. Click on my user name to send a mail.
My dad would happily trade the Mustang for a '68 Galaxy 4 door in pristine condition. :-)
